We recently had an inquiry from a couple who is on the fence about going through with planning dream Spring 2013 wedding, or postponing it until later in the year to buy more time. They were recently engaged, and their main question they had was “Is it too late for us to plan a Spring wedding?” While the answer is very personal and will vary from couple to couple, it certainly isn’t too late, and here are a few guidelines if you’re in the same boat planning a wedding within 2 or 3 months:

1) Flexibility is Key:

Since this is a last minute affair, you cannot assume that your dream location will be available on an arbitrary day that decide in your head, but if you are flexible and simply have a general timeline in mind, you likely will find a space which works for you, and possibly a great incentive right along with it! Similarly, if you’ve got one exact photographer, videographer, makeup artist etc in mind, they may not all simultaneously be available on the same date, but if you’re flexible in this area, chances are you will find a combination that works out!

2) Look Out for Late Stage Vendor Deals:

One of the biggest advantages of planning an event within a couple of months is that you get great deals from vendors who are still available. Your booking becomes extra income that they may not have been planning for, and if they are in a field that does not require a lot of work before the event date (ie makeup, DJ, photography etc) they may offer you a discount or other incentive to lock you in for the day.

3) Family Buy In:

Its important, especially if your parents/family is paying for the wedding, to have their buy in on your decision to plan a wedding in a shorter period of time. You definitely want them to be on board and clear about time restraints for inviting guests and making arrangements so that they don’t feel left out.

4) Invest in Help!

This is important when planning a wedding within any time frame, but extremely important if you are planning to make things work effectively within a couple of months. You’ll need to make sure that your bridesmaids and family are on board to assist your through the process. You’ll certainly also need to look to a wedding coordinator that you trust to help you craft and work through a realistic day to day planning schedule and coordinate the day of events so that you actually enjoy your self.

5) Advance Planning and Deadlines are Key:

Even if you’re planning to move quickly, advance planning is SO important! You’ll need to iron out as much as possible up front, so that the week before your wedding does not become reminiscent of a bridezilla episode. (No one wants that). You’ll have to be prepared to plan upfront, and act quickly on those plans.
